Referendum Update

At the January 22 Public Hearing regarding the facility project, the Board selected facility projects totaling $41.01 million to be submitted to the State of Minnesota for “review & comment.” Projects that were selected create a financial ceiling, which, once submitted and approved by the state, cannot be exceeded.

At the February 5 Special Board Meeting, the Board finalized the scope of the projects:

Auditorium: 800-seats, dressing rooms, scene shop, and lobby

Field House: 4 stations with elevated jogging track, community room, fitness center, locker rooms, changing rooms, concessions, public restrooms, and 200 added parking spaces

Baseball Complex with 3 regulation fields (1 with lighting) concessions stand, parking lot, convert existing JV baseball field to softball field, and add lighting to varsity softball field

Career Tech Ed Remodel: 2,040 ft2 addition for large projects bay, Fab Lab, relocate botany and taxidermy and add coolers, and rebuild small engine storage

Deferred maintenance projects:

Electronic door control (14) and intrusion alarm integration, elementary camera system upgrade, high school camera replacement and add 12 cameras

Replace 20-25 year old Ballasted EPDM roofs with 30 year guarantee (40 year life) Garland roofs

Replace 1961 elementary classroom windows

Pool deferred maintenance needs (re-grouting, tile base, main drain grates, LED lighting, replace interior doors, ADA lift)

Total project scope projects to potentially go to vote

At the February 20 Regular Board Meeting, the Board will vote on a resolution calling a Special Election. If the resolution passes, voters will have the opportunity to vote on the projects on May 8. The ballot question would be:

Shall the School Board of Independent School District No. 912 (Milaca), Minnesota, be authorized to issue general obligation school building bonds in an amount not to exceed $33,385,000, for acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities, including vocational education & building trades space, various deferred maintenance projects inclusive of roofing, pool, windows and security, a performing arts center, and a field house with community exercise and meeting space?

Thank you to everyone who participated in this process! Your input is appreciated!
