Music at the primary level (K,1,& 2) is a time of discovery, experimentation, and creating. The music staff is dedicated to using a rich repertoire of children's rhymes and folksongs as focus areas that provide the scaffolding to learning the elements of music. The very child friendly Hungarian Kodaly system of rhythm reading and hand signs for singing pitches is used. The children are encouraged to not only learn songs, poetry, and chants, but also to compose their own, using their musical knowledge.

The students have three to four, twenty-five minute music classes during a six-day cycle. With the need to focus on reading district wide, we are committed to working with classroom teachers to reinforce the elements of reading during the students' music classes, as well.
