Course Description: AIP Study Skills 7/8 is designed to teach organizational and study skills to students in the Tier II level of the Academic Intervention Program. Students will learn to prioritize work,  organize materials, manage time, and complete assignments on time. Organizational and planning skills will be taught during a portion of the class time using the Learning and Study Skills curriculum and other sources. For the remaining class period, students will work on mainstream assignments with support.

Important Notice: This class is not a substitute for working at home! All work that is not completed during the hour will need to be done at home. Most 7th and 8th grade students need to complete schoolwork at  home every single day. AIP students are no exception.

Student materials needed for this course: Students will need to bring their planner (with daily assignments written inside), pencils notebook, folders, and homework assignments to class every day. Although textbooks might be available in the classroom, students are expected to bring their own whenever possible. Students will be responsible for completing grade sheets regularly to monitor progress in all academic classes.

Grading Scale: Students will earn points for being on time, planning work time,  bringing materials, remaining on task, and behaving respectfully. Grading is aligned with the school’s grading scale.

Classroom Rules, expectations, and procedures:
Respectful treatment of one another is the number one rule in this class. Students can expect to be reprimanded for any behavior that is rude, offensive, distracting, or otherwise disrespectful to the teacher or other students. Persistently disruptive or disrespectful students will be removed from the learning area for a short time (hallway, other part of the room, or detention if needed). Chronic offenders can expect a call home to parents. Also, students are expected to be in the classroom before the bell rings. Three tardies will result in a lunch detention served either in the detention room or in my room.
