Milaca School District Continues to Celebrate Student Achievement

Milaca School District Continues to Celebrate Student Achievement

Milaca Public School District is working hard to build on the student achievement successes of the 2018-2019 school year. Minnesota Department of Education’s (MDEs) North Star Rating System and the traditional proficiency percentages are both used to identify areas of academic strength and areas of focus for continued development.

Following Milaca Public School District’s strategic plan that was developed in 2016 there have been many student achievement gains to be proud about. We are excited that since the 2015-2016 school year the Milaca School District has outperformed the state average in proficiency percentages in all district and building areas.
Proficiency increases compared to the state since the 2015-2016 school year to the 2018-2019 school year.

Milaca Public Schools' student achievement growth over this time has also outperformed many area schools in the three tested content areas (math, language arts, and science) with a variety of student groups, that include all students, special education students, and students that receive free and reduced meals. Many area school districts and the state have had decreased student achievement in many areas since 2016, but Milaca Public Schools have had continued growth as a district, elementary school, and high school.

Progress has been made towards Milaca Public Schools’ strategic plan, to have all student groups at or above the state average by the end of the 2018-2019 school year. The chart below identifies the progress made toward meeting or exceeding the state average in the twenty-three areas highlighted above.

At Milaca Public School’s we are excited about the academic progress we have made. We have utilized our current resources to maximize this growth. It is working and we feel great about the student successes! The increase in student achievement is a credit to the students, staff, and families of the Milaca School District. We are excited about the momentum and will make every effort to continue it throughout the 2019-2020 school year.
On November 5, our community will vote on a school operating levy and a bond referendum. All of the student achievement progress we have made is largely due to maximizing the resources we currently have. If either of these questions on the ballot are voted down, our schools will inevitably face more cuts. Unfortunately, areas such as student achievement, where we have experienced awesome growth, will be affected along with other areas we have taken for granted. Please educate yourself on the upcoming election and, most importantly, vote on November 5!
