WELCOME

Milaca 7-12 Online is a public school using an innovative online program that is flexible, evidence-based, and based on sound pedagogy. Our unique approach is designed to develop positive relationships with students and allows us to tailor an education that is specific to each learner.

We are approved for students grades 7 to 12 to enroll in either supplemental or comprehensive programs in online courses.

Milaca 7-12 Online uses the evidence-based Edgenuity and locally developed curriculum. Our curriculum provides students with an engaging and personalized learning environment. Students work towards a Milaca High School Diploma and must meet the Milaca High School credit requirements.

We don’t believe that one type of school is better for all students than another type of school. What we do believe is that, for one child, a particular school could definitely be a better fit than another school! And for some kids, an online school is that perfect fit.

After Milaca 7-12 Online staff confirms that supplemental learning will work for you, the Online Learning Supplemental Notice of Student Registration form must be completed. The following information must be included: courses, credits to be awarded, the start and end date of courses, and confirmation that the courses will meet the student’s graduation plan. After receiving the completed form, students will be enrolled in courses with the approved start date.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

• Students are required to complete a student intake meeting with the Online Director to complete required paperwork. Parents are encouraged to attend this meeting.
• Students are required to complete a one hour orientation with the Student Online Coordinator to go over access to program, communication requirements, parent access and communication, etc… (It is strongly advised that parents attend this orientation.)
• Students should initiate contact with the online instructor if having any difficulty with the Edgenuity program.

• Students will need to participate in weekly contact appointments with Student Online Coordinator or their designee.

Weekly Options:

• Scheduled Google Hangout
• Scheduled Appointment (Face to Face)
• Students can schedule any time they would like to spend working on course work  when our building is open : Monday-Thursday 7:30 – 4:45, Friday 7:30-3:05. 

• Students can complete coursework at their own pace but must complete the course in a semester period. Extension for courses can be obtained by contacting the Online Program Director.
• Students will need to participate in weekly contact until coursework is completed.
• Students will schedule a Review & Goal Setting Session at the end of each quarter with the Student Online Coordinator.
• Attendance is documented through the student logging into the Edgenuity System and must be actively working on coursework 4 hours a week for each course they are enrolled in.
• Students can access our facility to complete coursework at any time during scheduled hours.

HOME SCHOOL & PRIVATE STUDENT INFORMATION

Can home school or nonpublic school students participate in online learning from a certified provider and generate state funding for online learning? 

Answer 1: The Omnibus Education Bill (2005) changed funding for online learning such that Minnesota nonpublic school students must become full- time public school students to be eligible to generate funding for OLL courses. 

Nonpublic school students (home and private school students) can generate funding through the shared-time aid law (Minnesota Statutes, section 126 Subdivision c19), but the students must participate in core curriculum from a public school building. Therefore, nonpublic school students can generate shared-time aid for online learning only for the number of hours they access the course from a computer in a public school building.

SHARED TIME AID – Location of services.

(a) Public school programs that provide instruction in core curriculum may be provided to shared time pupils only at a public-school building. Public school programs, excluding programs that provide instruction in core curriculum, may be provided to shared time pupils at a public-school building, a neutral site, the nonpublic school, or any other suitable location

Answer 2: Nonpublic school students can pay for courses. This fee is determined by the length of the course (Quarter, Semester, School Year) and is assessed at the beginning of the course. Students do not have to come into the school building if this option is chosen. Part of the online programs expectations is weekly contact with the Online Student Coordinator. INFORMATION ABOUT OUR LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND COURSE OFFERINGS

Edgenuity is our online learning management system that provides our curriculum base. Courses have been reviewed by our staff and are aligned with the Minnesota State Standards.
