WHO WE ARE:
The Milaca Area Learning Center (MALC) was recognized by the Minnesota Association of Alternative Programs as the 2020 Program of the Year. MALC offers an alternative approach to earning a high school diploma. We invite you to explore the opportunity of joining our learning community.
If you are interested in taking control of your education and are a Milaca High School student, contact your school counselor to discuss your educational needs and obtain a referral to the MALC. They will help you determine if you meet the criteria for attending the MALC. Your counselor will determine the credits you need to complete in order to graduate from the high school.

Who comes to the Area Learning Center (ALC)?
Students who are 16 and older from Milaca and surrounding towns may attend our ALC. Students who attend here are students who want to complete their high school diploma and are ready to take responsibility for their own success! The Minnesota High School Graduation Incentives criteria are used to determine eligibility. Â We now accept students who are in 9th grade and 15 years old from the Milaca Public School district only.
What is the Milaca ALC?
The ALC is part of a statewide network of alternative schools created by the Minnesota legislature under the High School Graduation Incentives Program legislation. Individualized, small classes offer students a personal, relaxed setting with a strong emphasis on completing graduation requirements.
When is the ALC open?
The ALC is open during the school year at the times listed below. Â Offices are closed the month of July until the beginning of the new academic year.

Why would I attend the ALC?
The ALC is here to serve you! Â We specialize in developing individualized graduation plans and assist students who are behind in credits needed for graduation. Â If you did not finish high school, the ALC offers courses needed for a Milaca High School diploma or your resident district.
How do I sign up for classes?
Full-Time Student Enrollment
*Â If you are a Milaca High School student, you must first obtain a referral from your local high school guidance counselor, who will indicate which courses you need to graduate.Â
*Â If you are a student who resides in a school district other than Milaca, you can set up an informational appointment to determine your eligibility to attend an ALC.
Enrollment for Credit Make-Up
* Student’s looking for an opportunity to make-up credits they have failed previously should talk to their high school counselor for a referral to the ALC. The courses you need depend on your local high school’s requirements. The referral must be brought to the ALC, where you will register and develop a Continuous Learning Plan (CLP) to help you direct your learning.Â
